OUR STORY

The start of Underdog

After seeing firsthand the gaps that can exist in traditional pet care, Ryan knew Atlanta families deserved something better. Something personal. Something built on real relationships. So he built it. Underdog was founded on a simple belief: your pet is family, and they deserve to be treated that way — in the comfort of their own home, by someone who cares.

Meet Leah & Ryan

A young man kneeling on a wooden bridge outdoors with a smiling black dog that has white markings, wearing a harness and a chain collar, in a natural wooded setting.

Ryan

Ryan's love for animals started young, growing up in a home full of rescue dogs and cats. Caring for his elderly childhood dog taught him the value of patience and presence, especially when pets need a steady hand. That foundation continues to shape the way he approaches every animal he works with today, allowing him to build trust through calm, consistent care, taking the time to understand each animal and meet them where they are.

Ryan has been providing professional pet care since 2017 and is the proud owner of Underdog Pet Care, where he is grateful to work with animals full-time. Prior to this, he also gained extensive hands-on experience working at Jabula Dog Academy, developing the skills to confidently care for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments, including those who are anxious and reactive.

When he is not with the animals, Ryan enjoys going to live music and comedy shows, adding to his extensive retro video game collection, and training martial arts.

Leah

Leah has loved animals for as long as she can remember. She spent three years as a dedicated Wildlife Handler at AWARE Wildlife Center, where she worked hands-on rehabilitating a wide range of patients, including raptors, opossums, raccoons, and songbirds. She also helped lead educational programs with their ambassador animals, promoting peaceful coexistence with Georgia’s native wildlife to hundreds of adults and children in the Atlanta area.

This work inspired her to return to school at her own pace, currently pursuing a degree in Biology with the goal of becoming a Wildlife Biologist.

At Underdog, she runs scheduling, communications, and all things admin, making sure every client feels taken care of before Ryan ever walks through their door. When she is not running a tight ship at Underdog, she is probably shooting film with her favorite film camera, at her ceramic studio making something wonky, or hanging out at home with their three perfect cats.
